Libra VDP is a support device designed to improve the sound quality of CD players and analogue record players which can also be used with any audio/video systems (amplifyers, speakers, etc).

The operation of LIBRA like that of all great inventions is seemingly very simple and that is how it should be. Nevertheless, it is highly effective, an opinion shared not only by us, the developers of the product, but also by all of our friends, who participated in the so-called beta testing procedures.
In fact, it can be used with all video and audio systems from the lower qualities to the very top end of the market with incredible results.


I. Theory of Operation


An extremely hard stainless steel ball of 9.525 mm in diameter rolls with minimal friction between two glass surfaces, one made of a special material that is shaped to a specific curvature, while the other one remains flat. Consequently, the component is greatly isolated in horizontal direction while the internal vibration is drained away in vertical direction. Due to the very low horizontal resonantly frequencies the impact of seismic vibrations on the component is also significantly reduced. Therefore the useful signals do not get modulated, the component becomes less 'noisy' resulting in a more stable, purer sound.


II. What can you expect from the Libra VDP?


Results:



  • The improvement in the quality of sound upgrades the current system by half its current value. This applies to both cheap and expensive chains
  • The stage becomes more real, the musical message is dramatically separated from the speakers
  • The bass sounds tighter, deeper

  • The distortion in middle and upper middle ranges disappear, you can listen to the music at a higher volume than usual without any irritation
  • More details appear when listening at a lower volume
  • The extreme high tones - philharmonics are clearer, purer, and these sounds come through without distortions


Set up


The device can be set up in two ways:


1.) Libra VDP can be used without adhesive for all components standing on 3-4 fixed, solid feet which are at least 50 mm in diameter.



a.) Place the disk marked 'A' on a flat surface (e.g. on a table) with the concave side up.
b.) Put the INOX ball marked 'B' in the depression and wait until it settles.
c.) Put the disk marked 'B' on top carefully.
d.) Press the sticking side of disk B against the support points of the component as suggested in fig. 2. Make sure that the selected areas are flat and that the air vents remain uncovered.
e.) Repeat the same procedures with the other feet.



Warning: the enclosed adhesive tapes contain strong solvents; their removal can damage the paint finish.


2.) For relatively smaller equipment with 3-4 legs (like most CD players) double-sided adhesive tapes are to be used:



a.) After you have disconnected the equipment from the power supply find the best points for support at the bottom
Warning: The component must be unplugged and moved carefully to avoid any damages!
b.) Remove carefully the protective foil from one side of the adhesive tape and press it against the middle of the glass disk marked 'B'
c.) Remove carefully the protective foil from the other side of the adhesive tape
Warning: it contains strong adhesive. If it becomes unusable due to creasing or other damage it can be replaced with double-sided carpet tape (Duplofix)
d.) Press the sticking side of disk B against the support points of the component as suggested on fig. 2. Make sure that the selected areas are flat and that the air vents are not covered.

Warning: the enclosed adhesive tapes contain strong solvents, their removal can damage the paint finish.





e.) Place disks 'A' with concave sides up aligned with disks 'B' on a flat surface chosen to hold the component
f.) Position the INOX balls marked 'C' on top and wait until they settle
g.) Carefully put on top the component with disks 'B' already attached
h.) Once the component settles adjust the disks marked 'A' as necessary
i.) Connect the component to the power supply and to the attachments



j.)Libra VDP is now ready to use

I agree that LIBRA should be put as close as possible to the equipment exposed to vibrations. In my opinion and experience there are two important functions a device aiming to neutralize vibrations should have. 1) reduce / stop vibrations coming from the surroundings, mainly from the base support 2) reduce vibrations from the equipment itself by diverting, minimizing surface reflections. LIBRA offers a very smart solution to both problems.

Congratulations, I am impressed by your product! I couldn't hold back, I wanted to let you know, it was like sunshine after the rain. Words, adjectives are useless, if you don't try it you don't know what you miss.

I spend more time in the studio than at home so I had no time to test it at home, only in the studio. I have thought I should try using LIBRA at the beginning of the recording chain i.e. under the microphone! The microphone I used was an AKG C 460 B - CK 61 ULS. We have achieved great sound quality which isn't surprising since there is a rather big sound pressure in the studio during recordings. We should be able to measure the result with a signal generator, but no time for it at the moment, the recordings must go on. We would definitely like to try it with bigger, heavier mikes - NEUMANN U87 etc.as well. P. Michael - Hamburg

the instructions stating that 'the sound quality improves so much as if you spent at least half the value of your current equipment on upgrading it', well, it did sound a bit over the top but even if only half of it was true, good enough - I thought. First, I have put 3 pieces under a Sony CDP XP920 and I was surprised. The previously square, choppy sound of the CD smoothed out into a fine, yet fully detailed performance . The music sounded so good under a Pro-ject RPM-9 that my friend wouldn't let me remove it when I took it over to show him. As far as we are concerned, it has passed the test with flying colors.

I hate to spend on over-hyped, over-marketed stuff, but if I finally decide to do so I always try to see if things were better without it - less is always more, isn't it?. Nevertheless, I have to admit that LIBRA is far the best value for money I have ever tried in my system. Besides, it has proved my earlier suspicion, that an average CD player is much more sensitive to mechanical vibrations that an LP player. However, if you manage to reduce the vibrations to minimum by applying several different methods - LIBRA being the main player among them -, the sound of CD , at least my PD-75 player, becomes unbelievably analog-like, free of all the usual digital disturbances. I am yet to figure out how to put LIBRA under the amplifier as well. Till then, enjoy the music: R.I

I tested the first 3-piece LIBRA 2 months ago with the usual suspicion that it is just another esoteric gadget which might just have something to it, there might be a system or ear which can detect the promised improvement. Despite my preliminary disapproval I can honestly say all friends of hi-fi that it proved to be the best solution for a stand, it diverts and isolates the inner and outer vibrations of an equipment with far better results than the normal and titanium sound care prods I have used before. I haven't done any direct comparisons with other similar products, but I am confident that LIBRA will its tempered glass lens is much better suited to eliminate horizontal vibrations and support the remaining vertical vibrations with minimal reflections. LIBRA has brought the best value-for-money quality improvement from all the tuning changes I implemented in my system in the past years.

I am happy with the LIBRA stands, they do exactly what was promised in the manufacturer's website. Since I have put LIBRA also under my speakers, the bass doesn't bother the neighbors below any more, though I have tried everything before for the sake of peace. Since then I can hear more details and I listen to more music. Definitely worth to give it a try. I have an Electrocompaniet amplifier, a Linn CD player and Audio Physics speakers, I listen only to classical music, traditional jazz sometimes. Regards: Victor
